Turbotax extension online

Did you file a federal extension Form 4868?

Oregon recognizes your federal extension. If you requested a federal extension, you DO NOT need to request an Oregon extension. Mark the "Extension" box when you file your Oregon individual income tax return. Your 2021 return is due October 17, 2022.

An extension of time to file your return is not an extension of time to pay your tax. If you need an extension of time to file and expect to owe Oregon tax, download Publication OR-40-EXT from our forms and publications page for instructions. Submit your payment electronically by selecting "Return payment" on Revenue Online. Or, to make an extension payment by mail, download Form OR-40-V and Form OR-40-V Instructions. Mark the "Original return" box on Form OR-40-V and mail it with your payment to the address shown on the voucher.

To avoid interest and penalties, make your extension payment no later than April 18, 2022.

Filing for an Extension of Time to File

Requesting a six-month Extension of Time to File: Use Form CT-1040 EXT to request a six-month extension to file your Connecticut income tax return for individuals. This form also extends the time to file your individual use tax. It is not necessary to include a reason for the Connecticut extension request if you have already filed an extension request on federal Form 4868 with the Internal Revenue Service. If you did not file federal Form 4868, you can apply for a six-month extension to file your Connecticut income tax return provided you have good cause for your request. You can file electronically following the steps below under How to File.  If you file the request by mail, follow the instruction on Form CT-1040EXT.

Extension Request Not Required if No Additional Tax is Due and You Filed a Federal Extension:

If you expect to owe no additional Connecticut income tax for the taxable year, after taking into account any Connecticut income tax withheld from your wages or any estimated Connecticut income tax payments you have made, and any Pass-Through Entity Tax Credit you are allowed to claim, and you have requested an extension of time to file your federal income tax return, you are not required to file Form CT-1040 EXT.

How to File:

  • Use TSC-IND:  You can file your extension request electronically, using the TSC.  Payment of any tax due can be made by direct payment from your checking or savings account or by check.

  • Mail in Form CT-1040EXT:  Fill out the form and mail it with payment of tax due to the address on the form.

To be timely, your extension request and payment of any tax due must be received or bear a U. S. post mark date on or before April 15.

File Tax Extension Online

You can file a tax extension online using Form 4868, which lets you request an automatic extension of time to file your income tax return. You can file for an extension with our online program.

Filing your federal tax extension, online or through mail, doesn’t extend the time to pay a balance due. This is also true of a state tax extension done online or on paper. You must pay the money you owe the IRS by April 16, 2022. The extension only extends the time you have to file your return without penalties.

The extension will let you file your return by Oct. 15, 2022.

Depending on the state, filing a federal extension online or on paper automatically files for the state extension.
